DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS
Domestic violence is one of the leading causes of injury to women in the U.S. and those that are abused face a 60% chance of repeat assault by their attacker. Law enforcement agencies and the courts strive to help ensure the safety of the victims of domestic violence through supervised release programs and protection orders. However, these approaches can be more easily circumvented by an offender, resulting in additional harm to their victim.
Electronic monitoring programs focused on correlating location data from GPS ankle bracelets worn by offenders and small personal tracking devices for the victim provide an added level of proactive protection to help ensure that victims and their attacker never come in contact. Current GPS technology can be used to create mobile and stationary exclusion zones around a victim or locations, such as their home or work, to provide the victim with a warning if their attacker approaches on of these areas.
